Resume and Interview Tips

How to Create a Five Star Resume
By:Tony Jacowski

Naturally, resume requirements vary depending on the career field you are looking to work in.

However, there are a few things that are constant, regardless of which career field you are preparing a resume for.

Contact Info

The contact information listed on your resume is the most important feature above anything else.

After all, if this is not listed correctly it doesn't matter if they like what they see. Make sure your resume has a valid, phone number, address and e-mail address listed.

Make sure all the information is readable, and that it is spelled and formatted correctly.

Objective

When you are writing an objective make sure you remember your audience. The objective should be easy to read, and you should avoid using vague or blank statements.

Don't use the objective to write what you want, use the objective to highlight what you are bringing to the table as a candidate.

Sell yourself!

Professional Profile or Summary

The professional summary should not be a list of your accomplishments.

The professional summary should include the personal and professional characteristics and skills you possess that make you a qualified candidate.

This would include talents, achievements and other criteria that make you a good fit for the position you are trying to obtain.

Employment History

The employment history should be written in highlight form. Never list your job responsibilities in paragraph form.

List them in a bullet format and briefly describe each one. Make sure you use professional verbiage to describe each task.

For example, if you answered phones say you managed an office communications or managed a multi-line phone system.

Education

In many career fields education is a qualifying factor for employment. List the dates of educational achievement.

For example, the date you earned your degree. Also, list any additional training or continued education that is relevant to the job in which you are applying.

Etc.

If it is applicable at the end of your resume list any professional organizations or associations that you belong to.

You can also list relevant hobbies, extracurricular activities or volunteer work.
