Resume and Interview Tips

Resumes For Stay at Home Moms
By:Brian G Chadra

Resumes for stay at home moms are especially difficult to master since they involve writing about a skill set that typically doesn't include payment for services rendered. But what if we examine these a little more closely to see if there are things that could be applied outside the home? By applying some creative thinking, it is possible to create a functional resume that incorporates the myriad of skills possessed by stay at home moms.

Being able to juggle the complexity of a household requires the ability to multi-task, balance a budget, deal with difficult people on the phone, schedule repairs and prepare a meal. In the real world these skills translate to manager (multi-task), analyst (balance a budget), customer service (deal with difficult people on the phone), plant manager (schedule repairs) and chef (prepare a meal). Now of course, simply listing these skills without real world experience is hard to prove proficiency.

But the idea here is to take stock of what the stay at home mom has to offer a company. By writing some of these into the resume as a profile summary instead of a job objective will get a company to take notice of somebody with something to offer. Since a lot of these companies are looking for part time workers anyway, resumes of this type are sure to get noticed. Remember, a resume is the biggest selling point that a job seeker has, so it must be good. Stay at home moms are not exception. Good luck!

Until next time,

Brian
