Resume and Interview Tips

Resumes - How Do I Write a Great Resume?
By:Brian G Chadra

You're probably already aware that a resume is one of the most important tools in your job seeking kit. Having a great resume means that human resources personnel are racing to the phone in the hopes that you don't already have an interview schedule with their competitor. Would you like to know the secrets that cause some candidates to get those calls? It's not really a secret, but how a resume is worded and structured that grabs the attention of hiring managers viewing the paper.

The first thing that you need to do is take stock of your current document. Is everything up to date and accurate? One of the major mistakes that resume writers make is not having the correct contact information available. An outdated cell phone number won't allow a human resources person to contact you and believe me, they won't try more than once.

Another problem is with spelling or grammatical errors. Since this is easily correctable, having these types of errors gives the impression that you are not professional. You can ensure that the document reads correctly by saying it out loud followed by two readings from a trusted associate. Fix any errors now before producing a hard copy. Now that your resume looks good, let's make some changes.

Re-read the advertisement for the job you are seeking. Look for some keywords or phrases that you have confidence in due to your past experience. Now insert these strategically into the job experience section. Since human resources personnel are trained to look for keywords, you most likely will see additional attention due to your "inside edge."

You might also consider writing a profile summary instead of a job objective--especially if you are a seasoned professional with at least five years of experience. This allows the company to see a more well-rounded individual with both business savvy and a great skill set. Make sure to put your most important accomplishment in this part. Don't bury it further down since your resume will only get 20 to 30 seconds on average to review. Think carefully before completing this part since it often may tip the scales in your favor.

Now go write that winning resume.

If you want a better job, start with a attention grabbing resume. Point and click your way in only 30 min. You owe it to yourself and your family. http://buildyourownresume.netne.net/
