Resume and Interview Tips

How to Get a Job After Being Fired
By:Tony Jacowski

You can try to sugar coat it by coming up with whatever term you choose to titled it other than being fired, terminated, separated or let go.

Regardless there are a couple of ways to approach the situation with your prospective employer.
Honesty
Discussing getting fired is not an easy task. It is very important to be honest. You should be objective and explain to your prospective employer your view of why you were fired. By no means should you ever lie about the reason you were terminated.

One simple call to check your references and you may miss your opportunity for employment if you have been found to have lied.

There are many reasons why people are fired. It is important to be not place blame on your previous employer and to realize your role in the situation that led to the termination.

It is not recommended that you tell your interviewer that it was not at all your fault and that your previous employer was completely in the wrong.

It is highly unlikely that anyone would believe this, even if it is true.

Damage Control

Minimizing the damage of being terminated is important. You should give examples of how you have grown and learned from your experience.

Explain to your prospective employer how if presented with a similar situation, how you would handle it now. This will show the interviewer that you have examined both sides of the situation and have learned a valuable lesson.

You should keep in mind that everyone can make improvements at least in some areas and that is what you want to focus on during your interview.

Being fired is not the end of your career. If you assert this type of attitude you will find that your prospective employer will look favorably upon you.

Tips For Re-entering The Job Market

It is important to take some time and come to terms with the loss of your job. However, you should get back in the job market as soon as possible.

Make sure you have a plan and do not procrastinate. Networking and managing your references are critical tools in a successful job search. If you must give your previous employer as a job reference, it may be necessary to contact them to discuss their willingness to do so.

Prepare a list of people that will attest to your attributes - even if it is not your employer but past co-workers.
