Resume and Interview Tips

Write a Resume: How to Write Your First Resume
By:Diane Palmer

Writing a resume
, when you are first starting out in the working world, can be difficult, if not downright scary. Staring at that blank page, and wondering how to fill it, can be mind boggling.

So, before you make the font bigger to fill the page, just take some paper and ask your family and friends to help you come up with some points you can write down about your qualities, such as your strengths, weaknesses, etc.

Tell them to be honest, then look at all volunteer work you have done, or community services, or activities you were involved with at school or college. Any organization or group you were or are involved with. These do not have to be paying jobs to count. Write them down.

Now, look at all that unpaid manual labor you may have done for your family, friends, neighbors, or that summer business you ran last year. Did you have to organize other people? Do you have leadership qualities? Or are you that quiet organizer in the background that keeps everything humming along. Write it down.

You should have a good list of your abilities, qualities, and experiences. They do not have to be paid jobs to count on a resume, when you are first starting out. By writing a resume, with all of these qualities, you will give your potential employer a chance to get to know you, and what position you would be best for.

Now that you have all of your life skills gathered, you need to write your resume, and feel proud of your accomplishments. We all tend to rate ourselves on paying work, but other activities we do in life, will teach us the very qualities that employers are looking for, so don't just list that part time job at the quiki mart, promote yourself and all that you have done and stand for, and you are likely to get than interview!

Until you get "on the job" experience under your belt, you have to write a resume, to sell yourself even harder and promote your qualities to get your foot in the door. But once you do, you will be on your way.
