When thinking about resume preparation, it is important to analyze your inner-self. Ask yourself who you are now and who you want to be in the future. What are your dreams, desires and goals? What are your talents, what are your skills?

What have you learned from your education, your employment, past job experience, even life experience? What are you the best at? What kind of work do you truly enjoy?

Ask yourself this question, If money weren't an issue, what would my dream job be? You are always most successful when you enjoy the job you do.

Asking yourself the above questions will not only help you find a position that will pay your bills, but will also bring you happiness, fulfillment and success.

Now that you have analyzed yourself, it is time to analyze the company you wish to join. First, you will want to research the job you are targeting. Call the company, tell the receptionist that you're a potential customer and you are interested in their product/services.

Ask if you could be mailed a package on the company's products and services. Next, you will want to find the person's name who is in charge of hiring for the open position. Phone him/her directly and ask if you would be able to conduct an interview, because you are doing research in this particular job field.

Try using this short script: Hello, I am doing research in your industry because I am thinking about making a career change to this field. Would you have a few minutes of free time when I could meet with you to ask some questions?

Say it will be a one on one interview and that it would take no more than 10 minutes of their valuable time. You will most likely be granted an appointment because people love to give advice, especially within their area of expertise.

Here are some example questions you should ask during this information interview: What are your current hiring needs? What is the profile of an ideal applicant? What kind of technical training do you look for when choosing an employee?

Take notes and pay attention to his exact wording, this way you can use these same words later in your cover letter and resume. After 10 minutes, be prepared to leave and thank him/her sincerely for the time and help. Also be sure to get a business card so you can send a thank you note the following day.

You now know exactly what this employer wants, and have the perfect approach to land a job in his/her company.

After using these methods, you might not only find a job that will make you money, but will make you happy as well.
