No matter what anyone else will tell you, there are ways to answer specific questions during an interview, as well as things you should NOT say. There are many different questions that an interviewer may ask. The questions that usually vary are the ones that relate to the specific company, such as your field of study, or the expertise you can bring to the company. However, there seem to be many questions that never change. Yet, over the years of my being in the position to interview new employees, I have run across some examples of how to and how NOT to answer some questions. . Many of these examples are self-explanatory, but if you get lost, just be glad that your mom still loves you!

Question from interviewer: So, you are here about the clerk position we have available. What kind of experience do you have?

CORRECT: Ive just finished school, and I am looking for a full-time position that will help me gain more experience. Truthfully, I do not have much work experience, but I was raised in a household where my parents taught us a very good work ethic. I know I would be able to fill this position, since I am a very fast learner.

INCORRECT: I dont know I just wanted an afternoon job, so I can sleep in during the morning hours, and still have a lot of time to go party in the evenings. Besides, my mom goes past here every day on her way to work, so she could drop me off.

Question from interviewer: There may be times when I need you here before your usual hours begin. Will I have any problem trying to get a hold of you if I need you to come in early?

CORRECT: Well, I will be taking some morning college classes, but I dont have school on Mondays. So, I would be happy to do that on Mondays, and Ill try to keep you updated with my class schedule once I get my courses together.

INCORRECT: Im not sure about that . . . it depends on what I was doing the night before. But, yeah, you could try when you need to.

Question by interviewer: So, why did you leave your last job?

CORRECT: It was a part-time position while I was going to school. Now that Im done with classes, I wanted something that was closer to my field of study.

INCORRECT: Well, my boss never gave me a raise while I was working for her, and was always on me about how tardy I was every day. I did what I could to make her fire me, but she was too stingy to pay for unemployment so she cut my hours until I finally just quit.
