Tips to Format the Resume Before Printing a Professional Resume
By:Jean D Paul

Formatting a professional resume is as important as writing it well. Presentation is the first thing that makes an impact on the recruiter. The image of the candidate as a future employee forms in just few seconds of glancing at the resume and job application. There are certain things that matter when it comes to formatting the resume; they are given in the following:

Format of the resume: chronological, functional, combination
Length of the resume: around three pages
Margins around the resume: befitting present-ability, i.e. not too much and not too less
Content of the resume: choose between paragraphs, bulleted lists, etc.

These points can be elaborated simply; the professional resume format decides which section will come first in line and thus the columns or tables (for providing educational data) shall take up a standard space. For example, if you are a freshman and seeking a job as a trainee engineer, then it is advised that you provide the particulars about your academic tenure, grades scored in each term, etc., in a neat table. This is with reference to chronological format, starting from the latest to the first, mention your academic years and the scores respectively.

Now to keep the resume professional looking, it is best to stick to the A4 sized white, plain paper and not use any colors for neither highlighting nor giving bullets. Use the standard font face and size like Arial or Times New Roman and size 12. The margins all round the content of the page can be set by using the ruler on the margins. See to it that the rulers are not hidden; sometimes just by taking the cursor there on the margin the ruler is revealed.

The length of the resume plays an important role because it should usually not exceed more than three pages. Try and use different variations to fit in your credentials in this allotted space, adjust the margins, and lessen the font size if you may, but see to it that it is comfortably viewable.
