The city looks really ugly ( at least Wuhan has East Lake and environs ), I could not find any information about decent Western restaurants, no good bars or nightspots, in other words, sounds like Nanchang is really crap!

Well, you certainly have your priorities straight. Let's totally discount history, culture, customs and the like. I certainly wouldn't want to live in a foreign country that wasn't exactly like home.
