Hello englishgibson,
and thank you for commenting on my post about JJU. It was figured out in early 2004 how things ran in China. Guangxi was everything and this is why I had the support of the president and a few others. Though departments are departments and the director's of them clearly hold influence over even the top administrator, with subordinates supplying the evaluations to support their decisions, even if it means not providing all of them.

Most times when you would walk into the Foreign Affairs Office they would be playing video games, with one employee the son of a friend of the president. Another was an somewhat-attractive graduate (who began shagging one of the foreign teachers) who of course, worked directly in Samuel Shuai's office. Since I called out on several occasions how mis-managed/incompetent the system was operating, I become least favored foreign teacher in their eyes, though the serious student's see quality teachers sacrificed for (face-saving) measures.

Having one student give a speech on: If teacher's didn't dole out so much homework, then the student's would have more time to "play" with each other, explains the mentality of the average JJU student. How many times I was asked by student's to "play" games or go outside to teach class. When I organized outside classes to learn flower, shrub and tree species, I'd have student's purposefully lagging behind and "disappearing", thinking I would not notice them missing. Cell-phones were out busy text-messaging and making calls, despite it being "class". Once a month I'd ask student's to bring MP players of their favorite songs, so we could learn the lyrics in class. Next to none wrote them down as requested, nor did you ever hear them singing these tunes out-side of class. So even "entertaining" them would not keep their focus upon learning.

The nursing school student's I taught as agreed upon from my creating the Hart & Stone Nurses Scholarship Fund (https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0Ae7TswGdGnXOZGZmcWZwZzZfMTQxMmM2c3o1Y2dz&hl=en), learned as much information in the 6 weeks of classes I was with them and retained more information than "babysitting" the "English" majors I had some classes for 2 semester's. So, this is why I will only focus on medical schools in my future work in China and those directly associated with my former Hart relatives.

Hope to one day catch up with you a "cheer" the beer in person.
