Here is a list of some countries where even foreign teachers could go to earn a higher salary in China with less hours per week than in China:

1. Saudi Arabia
2. Emirates and other states in the area
3. Norway (with one of the highest pays in Europe but also with taxation)
4. South Korea
5. Taiwan
6. EU nations

Quoting someone above...not sure how to work the quote option on this forum!

No 1&2, Saudi and Emirates.....few teachers in China have the qualifications and ability required to work in the ME, although if they do, salaries are obviously higher.
3, Norway .... not many EFL gigs there...not enough to even include it for purpose of comparison IMO. Log on TEFL.come now and repost how many jobs are available in Norway.

6. EU nations pay higher than China? Perhaps in terms of rate per hour ... but in real terms of living costs, I think not. Especially in terms of entry level work. EU rates are widely known to be amongst the lowest Vs cost of living.

The above statement is nonsense IMO...and I challenge anyone to post a job advert that offers salary/working hours (on countries 1, 2, 3, 6 ) comparable with the average China job .. with minimal qualifications or experience.

Korea may offer higher salary, but 12 hours weeks are NOT typical, and the living is often more expensive according to anecdotal evidence. Taiwan ... I dont know.

Happy to admit Im wrong tho if anyone posts genuine links to genuine jobs that teachers with minimal quals can apply for
