Hi,

As I started this thread I just wanted to say that I worked with Nanjing De'ai Language Centre for 9 months before I went off travelling around SE Asia and I had a great experience. They are a professional and accommodating school to work for, the hours are long but you are very well compensated (same pay as language centres in Shanghai even though the cost of living is much less in Nanjing, Nanjing is so cheap!).

I did negotiate less hours as I really wanted to travel so I did take a pay cut but I was still paid well and I thought it was worth it as I got to travel around china with my friends a lot more often.

As for Paddy O'reilly he is a great guy from New Zealand who works in partnership with the Chinese owner and head mistress to operate the school. The Chinese head mistress is a fantastic lady who studied in the UK for some time. The school is a very professionally run school with a more western approach than other centres I visited or did part time at.

Oh and I always had a proactive TA with me who was proficient in English.

All in all, it was a good experience but just be prepared to work weekends and get your two days off during the week, if you're ok with that then all should be fine!
