I remember talking to a 30 something woman in China many years back, she had a job that was paying well managing a wine shop selling various wines to rich chinese/expats in Beijing. Her mother was giving her a hard time for not being married, and she was spending most of her salary on rent for a shared apartment in a nicer area, and travel to various places in Asia, but actually saving nothing. When asked about that she said something like, it is a mans duty to provide for me, he should be stable. Obviously matching the mothers expectations is harder to do, as she was well over 30,but yes marriage is for money in China, they see it as I can spend all my own salary, and my husband should pay for me as well!
