Re: Anyone heard of Younger Foreign Language School?

Good things to know, I was thinking about contacting them, now I know to steer clear.

Re: Anyone heard of Younger Foreign Language School?

I have no idea, since I was only working part time. Generally a school treats you even worse once they think they own you, so I can only imagine how badly this place would have treated me if I had been dull enough to sign a contract and trust them to provide me with a place to live. Schools seem to think they own you, many do anyhow, once they provide you with a domicile, and will often treat you worse. Like I said, if they treat you that badly and they are trying to persuade you to sign a contract, in the near future, you can only imagine how badly they would if you actually made a more long term committment, giving them even more power and control.

The funny thing is that the girl Susan, all of 22 and an expert on all forms of education, sent me a message this morning asking me to come back after she had just fired me the day before. LOL, these people are a joke.

I have noticed that Chinese staff at schools this bad seem to overcompensate and act like they are all that, which is really just a shield for feelings of massive inferiority. Do we really intimidate them that much, or is it only the professional non backpacker variety who are good teachers that do? Having been a teacher before coming to China and having a good 15 years on her and almost all the staff at this school, that seems a safe bet. Sad I think that people let themselves be intimidated and end up acting like such idiots when they could instead see it as an opportunity to learn. I certainly enjoy learning when the opportunity presents itself, no matter the source.

The demos at this school were so very odd, and all they seemed to care about. 7 foreign teachers, maybe 6 students, and you don't know who is who. You start to teach and the teachers are participating with the students. Since I have no information on their level I really am at a loss, and would generally want to get a feel for their level from the very start, starting simple and working my way up, imposible since there are perfect speakers and non speakers all participating. It was all in all one of the strangest environments I have ever been in. I don't know why they think this works, but the lack of actual students should be a clue that they don't have a clue.

If your super desperate for work, I guess this is the place to go, but as I said, once the people they had cajoled to come in got paid for that month, none of them came back the following, and now they are desperately seeking new dupes.

In truth they are, as far as I know, not even hiring contract teachers at this time, because they don't have enough students to teach. The whole atmosphere is one of non profesionalism. There are no experts in education or even Elders at this school, not even anyone over the age of 26. The office seems to be a telemarketing posting where half of their staff are cold calling people trying to convince them to come and take classes.

Please spread the word about this place, as someone who has taught at most of the language mills in Wuhan, never have I been treated so poorly as I was at this place. For the six months I spent with DOS, and that's a long time for DOS, I was treated fairly well by comparison, that should tell you oodles. I found DOS to be a picnic compared to this place.

They are so desperate for teachers that Susan and Lisa, the two teachers, both being 22, are actually attending wuhan outings meant for expats just to recruit teachers. When you treat them as poorly as they did me, and make a lot of false promises, it's no wonder.

Shoddy treatment, pretty much no work, rude managment and rude fellow teachers, total lack of materials, and a lot of complaining done to put you in your place are all you will find at this "school", and I use the word loosely Definitely a place that should be avoided.
