Yep, Taiyuan is cheap to live in...and it needs to be.
I think it may be the worst large city in China to live in. Cold, dry, dirty, horribly polluted, boring, provincial, and remote from other cities...everything you DON'T want in a place to live.

If these guys can't give the permits, and enough of the former expats have vacated, then they may well be becoming desperate enough to offer a decent salary for a change.

Of course, without a Residence Permit, you're just a victim waiting to happen, but at least you'd keep their school open a bit longer...

I'd have to agree. Taiyuan is a pretty cheap city to live in compared to others, at least I think so. I've been there and can attest that it is cheaper than Wuhan anyway. Therefore, to be making 12,000 in a city like that, it begs cruduality. I would also have to agree, poad of BS. Likely when you got there everything would change, and that 12,000 would become the actual 5,000, which is oh so common pay over here, for 18 to 25 hours of work.
