Re Jiaying University

I've seen or suspected many wanna be expats make bad comments about schools that are BS.. This could be the case... I'd really hope all expats in China can post an honest review of the colleges and universities.. However, it seems some are being manipulated by their Chinese boss to make bad and untruthful comments in order to attract expats to another school. sad but true :(

Re: Jiaying University biggest problem

Many young Americans who come to China to teach are giving their country and the rest of us FT's a bad name. As a result of their uncontrolled lifestyle, many Chinese employers now include clauses in their contracts ,like "don't overdrink and teach, or else you will be fired".
Too much personal freedom in a country can be a bad thing, so I welcome the curfews that most Chinese schools impose on foreigners. We are not all night clubbers and bar flies. If you are that kind of person, you'd be better to give China a miss for the purposes of teaching, otherwise you'll get yourself in hot water!

Re: Jiaying University biggest problem

The biggest problem is the element of American teachers who are young, and drink every night, do drugs every night, party every night, and show a complete lack of civility by playing rap and hip hop at full volume to all hours of the morning. That is the biggest danger, the scrawny alcoholics there.

Re: Jiaying University

This poster sounds a bit defensive. One seriously doubts that he would provide ALL of the email addresses of the teachers currently employed at the university in question.
The OP specifically stated that only two obscure email addresses were provided, and not one current address. There must be a reason for this. This sounds like a cover-up to me.

Jiaying University

This post is in response to JoAnne's post on 11/17/08 regarding Jiaying University. In the 6 years I have worked with this university there has never been a teacher by the name of JoAnne who has worked at the university as a foreign teacher. This means this review has been posted fraudulently or the individual is attempting to remain nameless. Either way, this type of post dilutes the validity of information found on this site.

I work very closely with the university officials and the Foreign Affairs Office. There has been no evidence over the last 6 years of the types of things described by "JoAnne".

There have been foreign teachers who have not been happy/satisfied with the way they have been treated (as with most employers). However, when these situations are investigated the typical result is that both parties are partially to blame and the situation was allowed to escalate without dialog between the parties. When this occurs it usually results in bad feelings on both parties part.

I apologize for the long posting, but the accusations made and shared can not be believed since this person has not used their true name or provided specifics.

Many foreign teachers have worked at Jiaying University with pleasant and memorable experiences. Those stories are in the majority rather than this questionable experience.

I am happy to provide current teacher contacts for anyone who would like to correspond with them to get the "real" picture.
