Re: Bell International Beijing

Beijing is one of the most expensive places to live in China, number two or three I believe, not sure which. That being the case, pay should be quite high.

I have seen ads before offering 12,000 in Beijing, seems about right. International schools will pay more, real international schools, but they are rare and hard to come by.

However, less than 100,000 a year in Beijing? Laughable. I would not work for less than 10,000 a month and 3,000 for accommodation, at least.

Generally you won't be given accommodation in places like Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen, the top three most expensive cities in mainland China. Cots them too much to buy or rent property for a long period. They are also cheapskates. Hence, when you get there they will provide a monthly stipend for rent, but you have to find, rent, and pay for the place yourself. Yes it is nice if the allowance they give you covers the monthly rent. However, they do not give you what is the usual in China, six months upfront in rent, 3 being rent, 3 generaly being deposit. You'll rarely get by paying less, though some have. Hence if you want to go teach in Beijing or Shanghai, the out of poicket expenses will initially be quite high. You are looking at 15,000 at least, of your own money. Not uch a good deal when you think about it.

I would not work in these cities anyhow, came to China to experience China, not someplace that is a lot more like the west than it is the east, in general anyhow. Plus they cost too damn much ;)

Bell International Beijing

Made application to Bell Beijing and had interview and was told that there are no full time jobs paying 103,000RMB per year or up to 150,000 RMB per year.

Secondly, there is no accomodation in Beijing.

Realize that Bell Beijing partnership opaque and this "bait and switch" provides some expert interview practise.

So, don't be in a hurry to quit your job and hire on at Bell Beijing since your chimes might be rung.

I now am returning to the States for some long needed R&R.

Cheerio
