A verbal promise is legally binding. E.g. breach of promise.
Please elucidate when a verbal promise is legal in contrast to when it isn't.I'm not a lawyer,so I wouldn't know the difference between the two situations.But you obviously know as you've brought this matter up.
By the way,if Chinese employers breach written contracts willy-nilly without compunction,why should we expect them to keep verbal promises that are as legally binding as their contracts?
Of course,verbal promises,just like contracts,should be made in both Chinese and in English,the two versions to be equivalent in meaning.

I would advice you thought to moderate you language and show some respect and professionalism, as you intend to become a professional teacher.
As I understand it, you currently dont work in China, though you are contemplating travelling to Wuhan.
You will not find Chinese employers taking written contracts too seriously in Wuhan.
You need to adjust.
