Re: Walton Language School in Huadu

There have been SO MANY WARNINGS about Walton on this very site.

Why did you even bother with them? They are known all over Guangzhou for being at the top of the list in terms of the worst place to work.

They are infamous.

Please do a search here and just read all of the posts about them.

Walton Language School in Huadu

Do not bother with this school. Its a rip off. The contract says 22 teaching hours for 8000 per month (which is already a very low salary for the number of hours) but what they mean is full working hours-not teaching hours (which are a maximum of 45min). Basically they are trying to get you to do 30 teaching hours for 8000 a month. Normally its 18 teaching hours max for 8000 in Guangzhou and area surrounding. (which is about 12 working hours, half the time Walton requires you to do)

Further more I have heard a few stories about Walton and them being very dishonest with paying their teachers and negotiating
contracts.

An example Waltons dishonesty:

A friend of mine was negotiating with Walton for a summer job over a period of 6 weeks. Originally they were offering to pay 1250 per week for 32 teaching periods (i think 24working hours?). Again-incredibly low. My friend wanted to go to Huadu for other reasons for a while though and negotiated for 2000 per week. Walton agreed saying that this was the maximum they could pay.
However, after a sample contract my friend noticed that they were not going to pay any money until the very end of the teaching period. Having read bad comments about Walton payments on the net my friend rung up and said that Walton would need to pay some money during the duration as well-a variety of payment methods were suggested-Walton then agreed to pay 3000 after 3 weeks and 5000 after the 6th week. My friend was confused saying that this was 3000 less than the negotiated amount. Walton said that if they had to pay money out earlier this was the only way they could do it-including a probation period of 1 week. The probation period was never mentioned before and not stated in the sample contract. My friend felt that they were just trying to get someone to stay for 1 week on a low pay (1000 for the first week) and then replace with another teacher so they would not have to pay a higher amount thereafter. My friend agreed to 3 days probation and full amount of 2000 would have to be paid as well as a clause could be included in the contract that the person teaching would stay at least 1 week. Walton did not agree and said they could not pay 2000 a week. My friend reminded that it was agreed previously that the amount would be 2000. Walton replied they never said that and that they could not pay that amount due to lack of experience of teaching children, they could only pay up to 2000 per week but my friend did not have the necessary teaching experience with children. My friend asked how much they could pay and was offered 1333 per week. Obviously Walton never intended to pay 2000 per week right from the get go.

This is only the short and uncomplicated version of the tale. The full version includedes many inconsistencies on Waltons side and would make it hard to follow.
The person that was negotiated with from Walton is called Vivian.

again:

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER WORKING FOR THEM.

I have 5 years teaching experience here in China and have heard a few tales like this by now and feel I should warn any foreigner about schools like this one.
