Nobody, if you have not got the guts to leave a name when you email, then do not bother.

Hey Listen,

ESL teachers aren't all stupid and a love of teaching should be enough for anyone and any school! I may not have a fancy PGCE but I have the ability and experience to be able to go back to the UK and walk straight into the 6 month course that does qualify me as a PGCE level teacher but what's the point?

I enjoy what I do here and really don't understand anybody (PGCE or not) that does a job that they hate!! If you want to spend your time comparing qualifications and looking at things that will have no meaning in ten years time anyway when they throw your resalts in the bin cause they are out of date and have no storage space then that's up to you!! If you don't believe me on this ask any admin manager that works for a uni and they can tell you!

I understand your feelings about people who don't take their jobs seriously or wish to find some educational value in their work. I just feel sorry for them as they don't seem to value themselves either. I'm not a newby in China and have an idea of how bad things can get working for private schools but if you don't like it and just want to give up trying to make things better then I'm sorry! No one said life was easy and making money doing something you enjoy would be a breeze!!

Anyway teaching isn't for everyone but take care and don't let your students suffer for your lack of professionalism

There are at least three punctuation errors in your post. Definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black. You're not alone, though; there are many so called teachers posting here who couldn't punctuate their way out of wet paper bag. Nevertheless, that doesn't excuse your haughtiness - nor my own for that matter. What's galling about your post, though, is that you seem to be quite enamored with your own qualifications as a teacher; however, you've still got a lot to learn. One can only hope that you're not teaching writing. Better stick to teaching Oral English until you sort it all out.

Darren, I wasn't quite sure of who you were criticizing in your blog. Was it Fountain school or the teachers at Fountain, who may have TEFL or ESL credentials which are different than yours? Are you just pumping up your own chest saying; look at me! ... I have a P.G.C.E., and I'm better than you ...! Just because you have these credentials don't make you any better than a teacher who has a TEFL certificate. How can you blatantly criticize someone who studied hard to get their TEFL, that they don't mean anything. You can have all the degrees and certificates in the world, but that doesn't necessarily make you a better teacher than someone who doesn't. It you come across as a pompous ass, then your students won't like you or regards you as a good teacher, and then your P.G.C.E. credentials mean nothing!

Uh, the quality of your post stretches credibility as well! No such word as "alot," for example.

I am shocked at the reports and the childish manner in which you all act here.
As i am a pgce qualified teacher i have seen esl teachers at work. Do not be proud of your tefl or esl, they hand them out like candy bars to children. Also as i have worked for Ofsted in the uk i am sure most esl teachers would never meet the grade and this goes for alot of the failed teachers at Fountain.

I suggest all tefl esl teachers get a proper qualification.

i wouldn't trust the internet as a good source of references good or bad, i think its quite obvious that the internet is a platform for deceit, therefore, its very difficult to distinguish who is saying what to who and who is telling the truth to who...so what else can an organization do to establish credibility concerning these kinds of posts? i know corporate responsiblilty is popular these days so that a company establishes a good reputation, and word of mouth is the most powerful medium, even when a publics are established.

FOUNTAIN ENGLISH LANGUAGE SCHOOL, ZHUHAI. - ESL school review

Hello everyone,

I am a teacher at Fountain English Language School in Zhuhai. I have been working for Fountain School for 18 months.

I want to say that I have never had any problem with my salary and that I have always been paid on the due date. Also I have not heard any complaints from the other teachers here either.

In fact if the pay day falls within a holiday period the teachers are paid in advance and in full. I have found the school to be fair in its dealings.

So please, those of you that are discerning, give the schools in Zhuhai a fair go, and yourselves for that matter. Phone, e-mail or write to the targeted schools for some kind of confirmation or rebuttal of the critical comments made here.

You could be missing out on a reasonably good job in a great little city.

Regards to all,

Gerard Callahan (teacher)
