Re: EF Guangzhou

seeking info sounds like fishing info with a fancy rod in murky waters but forgive my observation on. if your fancy fishing rod brand name's different than mine, it doesn't mean i don't know yours, does it? info comes from varieties of sources and the EF sharks are well known around. they launder the money in china and shame that a foreign company has got so low. they bent their arses at the the border crossings and offered some fairly one-sided franchisor-franchisee contractual agreements to the mainland. now, they're feeling the pain and so they've put some ointment on. by owning a few centers to lead by example, they feel the cherry will come back there. lol

seeking info, you've been seeing info around on the topic, haven't you? i hope you know they've decentralized their operation on mainland previously and that in order to expand quickly and "efficiently". the profitability has almost certainly been assured there as some local business people have jumped at their fine opportunities, invested a couple million and agreed to pay the few percent royalty fees. the owners knew this was (and is) china and the book keeping is just in their favor as well. investing their filthy money in EF (educations) was just less risky and more respectfull than investing it in the market that they knew little about or keeping it which would make them a target. too bad for us that few EF owners knew or cared what the product was all about. but what a great marketing strategy from the EF headless office to expand. now, when the filthy sewage is sold and isn't moving, it's been bought back in some locations. lol

the question rises why would anyone put his/her two cents in to clean up this sewage? if it is due to the fact that there are a way too many unpro employment agreements around, then i can sympathize. if it is 'cause of the location, then i question the EF choice as there still are some other choices than this filthy mac sewage.

cheers and beers to cleaners :)

Re: EF Guangzhou

Thanks Turnoi for your comments. Certainly harsh words for someone with no direct experience of working for this company. However, it gives me one side of the story which is useful. Interestingly, I have since found out that the schools in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai are not franchises but are corporately owned which, to me, makes a difference. Although I haven't worked in China before, I have had EFL experience in Japan and Europe and would agree with your comments regarding schools making money versus educational standards as they are at times uncomfortable bedfellows. However, communication, personality and attitude are important factors in bridging the gap between money making and raising educational standards. Regards the one other issue mentioned, people poor at management won't last long in any industry.

Anyway, forewarned is forearmed so thanks for the details.

Good luck in your continued prestigious employment.
