Straits Newman School, Shi Jie, China Nick Liao, Recruiter

I have gotten to teach the second semester at Straits Newman School in Shi Jie, China in the spring of 2010. Regardless of anything you have read previously, about my boss, Nick Liao, he must be a totally different person three years later. All of the international teachers view him with much respect. We would never be able to do our jobs effectively without him. He not only helps us with any teaching questions that we may have, but, he helps communicate our needs to the Chinese teachers and principals and the same to be able to share with us. Not only is he our boss, but also, our friend. He would do anything to help any of us, as he has shown a number of times. I have seen him drop everything he was doing one weekend, to help a fellow teacher that needed to be taken to the hospital. Also, he makes sure that teachers who are new to the area, have the items that need to live in their apartment in China. I do not know who wrote the article in 2007, but, I can tell you that this year, 2010, he could not have been nicer or more helpful. So, please know that if you decide to come to work at Straits Newman in September, you will have a boss that will always do everything he can to help you, as you have the priviledge of teaching at Straits Newman. I have enjoyed my teaching experience in China. Yes, it has been a challenge, but, you have to remember that teaching in any foreign country is going to be different. But, one thing that is true about teaching anywhere, and that is preparing lesson plans and being involved with your students. I have found that the Chinese children are smart, and for the most part, excited about learning. Also, the teachers and principals want the English teachers to have a good experience. I have enjoyed the meals in the cafeteria and it is fun living with the other teachers at the school. With all that is going on in the schools everywhere today, this one is very safe with not only the walls around the school, but guards at every entrance. So, if you are interested in teaching English in China, I would highly recommend this school. Also, it's location is perfect for many day or weekend trips such as Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, and Dong Quan is only 30 minutes away. By teaching at Straits Newman, you can enjoy teaching English while you live and learn the Chinese culture.
