Re: Alcanta Language School GZ China

Jim, I think there're openings in that school. I was offered a job there, although I declined. In fact, I declined twice, ones when during an interview I said that I was not just "An Oral English Teacher" and when I raised my concerns the local teachers taught the rest, and then the second time when the fine local Director called me to offer 150 Yuan per class (45 minutes each). The second time when I smelt the desperation in his voice, I had to say I had no time. I feel sorry for you, but you could have seen this coming, if you were experienced on mainland. They've got a foreign puppet leading accademic that's, according to this local Director, there for only about 6 months and then they've got their local teachers apparently teaching grammar at the "college" there. According to this local Director that interviewed me and then called me again, you get New Interchange and Market Leader to teach the "oral" there. It's all just an interesting combo for a "college".
Cheers and oral to the local offers :)

Alcanta Language School hire foriegn teachers and replace them - without payment - whenever they find one they like better.
I was told I had a job at Alcanta, by the manager/recruiter who calls himself Steven.
I worked there for 6 weeks and one day. I worked hard and I never arrived late.
After 6 weeks, I was paid for only 4 weeks. I was told that, all of a sudden, the students had started complaining about me. I was told that it was a very large number of students who had startd complaining all of a sudden. The complaint was that I couldnt teach. I am a qualified and experienced English teacher. I hold a BSc from a British university. This simply wasnt true.
I saw the reason I had been fired, later that afternoon. A cool, charming, ggod looking young Amrican guy had been found to replace me. Steven told me I would not be paid for the two other weeks because they had had to make a great effort to find a replacement. This is also untrue. There are considerably more qualified English teachers than jobs in GZ. Especially now during the crunch. They had mearely found someone they liked better and replaced me without paying what they owed to me. They produced no evidence that anyone had complained about me, or even named anyone. Obviously, if the complaints were that I couldnt teach, these would have been made in week 1, not at the end of week 6.
I got a friend to accompany me and went back and shouted at Steven in front of the students. I was then paid for the other two weeks but not for the additional day. I still had lost my job. I had got the job when most such jobs had started and there were plenty of openings. I now had no job at a time when the openings were filled.
