Shanghai United International School has a poor reputation for treating its foreign teachers poorly; from Induction through to the end of the year. As they are the front line contact for students and their families, teaching and learning cannot produce positive results when teachers haven't got the proper support. It is unfortunate this school administration and office staff cannot see the importance of support. They do have a new Intl. principal this year, yet school culture in the Chinese Administration cannot change that quickly so I suspect there shall be issues still to come. The administration needs to manage effectively so faculty will gain trust and together in a trusting working relationship is a MUST!

I do agree with the fact that roger s[edited] has a poor managment of the school but I have to say that I had a very good contact as a parent with michelle n[edited] who is an assistant head. she is in charge of ICE and english in this school. she is quite good with a deep knowledge of the education. but above all, she understands parents and kids. she seems to be the only one who make things happen in this school. my kids are also extremly happy with their teacher, mrs victoria who is extremely professional ..anyway ...suis is not that bad and teachers are quite good. Most of western teachers work with a Chinese one in the same classroom and the ice curriculum seems to be the best for my kids as it is not only based on questionning the kids like pyp but also based on delivering knowledge to them.
It is not the best school of shanghai but it is quite good from my point of view.

Shanghai United International School
It is greedy school ,they always want to dig money from parents .
SUIS try to raise up tuition since second year from 60,000RMB to 80,000RMB 2007, all parents united to fight , school have to give up .
My 2 kids were in Shanghai United International School
The nightmare started since second semester , daughter got the note from school that said her English level was not eligible , need to pay 12,000 RMB extra for English class , around 50% students need extra paid English class . the school principal Roger Sinnett had meeting with parents one by one , push them to pay the fee. Was my daughter really such bad , her math was best in the class .So we did not pay , at the end of semester , school sent a letter , told her that she could not upgrade . we had no choice to move her to another school.
There is school psychologist, She purport helping kids for free, after a couple of times talking and activity with my son and , she tried to sell a ADHD test for my son , it cost 6,000 RMB , I told her I need to think about , she persuaded that how good and useful the test is.
Finally she and the home teacher Andreas Norretranders designed a another solution .they suggest me to hire a assistant to help my son in the class who is SUIS teacher;s wife . I need to pay the assistant 24,000 RMB/ year . I accepted it .but the others students and parents didnt feel comfortable about that , the assistant tried to show she did good job , she told the answer to my son at the exam. I stopped hiring the assistant , Right away , SUIS principal told me that assistant is necessary .I had no choice.
SUIS teachers work in the school with angry . they talked really bad about SUIS on forum . Do you trust giving your children to the staff who work with bitterness?
