Hi, have a doctorate in Asian History and have taught ten years at Uni, but in Asian Studies rather than ESL. I am about to do CELTA at Holmseglen Melbourne, with a view to adult ESL teaching in either VN or the Philippines. I have lived in both places previously. I speak Vietnamese but not Tagalog or Bisayan. I am a single caucasian Aussie, 52yo. Could I please pick the Board's brains as to the following:

1. Which do you think, in general terms, is the better place to teach, VN or Philippines?
2. Are there any reputable recruiters into either market?
3. Is there a livable wage structure in the Philippines?
4. Are the plethora of Korean schools in Manila and Cebu serious about teaching? Do they hire foreigners, or just utilize the low-wage local labor market?
5. I have read plenty of 'knocks', particularly for some schools in Vietnam. Could anyone give any positive recommendations for schools in either place.
