Re: What's the Lowdown re Xiangtan University?

Yo, Silverboy, happy new year! you've obviously misread the OP's post. The uni FAO is the culprit in this case. Whenever an agent introduces a job hunter whom the uni wishes to hire to the uni, the uni contacts the job hunter to ask him to lie to the agent. The bad intention of the FAO is to cheat the agent out of his commission by getting the foreigner to say he will not go there when in fact he will do so. Though I'm no great fsn of Chinese agents, I can understand why many of them won't reveal a potential job hunter's contact details to an employer nor that potential employer's contact details to the job hunter until the very last minute to try to prevent connivance between the two parties in order to dupe the agent. These days, like it or not, it's a fact that many Chinese schools recruit exclusively through agents. By the way, commission is normally 10% of the total employment package value of a foreign teacher, a not inconsiderable sum of money.
