Re Grovelling Weasels' Fast Food - I don't like that dish...terrible!!!!

Yeah Chinese people are pretty sensitive to criticism, this can bring out the worst of anyone from said country. Unfortunately the "education" system teaches people to behave as if they are speaking to a perceived enemy (which unfortunately includes ANY expat) when a difference in opinion of certain issues are brought up.

In a world which cannot just be superficially defined in black and white, chinese people still tend to be dragged into the political propaganda of which comes from their own respective environments. This really hampers their own progress and growth as people in the long run. However I have met some Chinese who are willing to think in a different direction, but generally speaking this can create a problem between an expat and a local chinese.

@ Turnoi: An interesting response. But I felt far safer in Oman and the UAE, than I ever did in China. Granted, I have never been to the KSA so not sure of how it is there.

I just mean the Chinese are more defensive and sensitive to criticism than any other race of people I have ever met. When I mentioned Israel in Oman I got some hostility and ranting, but never outright violence was implied or threatened.

If I mention Taiwan even in passing in the PRC, ears close up, blinkers go on at the first time. If it's mentioned again things get more heated and you may be lucky to end up on two feet.
