Re Hampson English, Beijing and elsewhere in China

Can't say I ran in to many serious problems when working here but that does not mean I would recommend them :P

They often paid late coming up with various excuses. The accountant is on holiday, it's because we have been closed for the holidays, there was a problem with the bank it wasn't our fault. I was never cheated out of any money but I constantly had to keep an eye on things like making sure the correct amount of classes has been recorded and stuff like that, otherwise I would have been short changed.

The facilities at Hampson really suck. They have very little material, are not in any way set up to teach kids, even though they have many studying there and their professionalism leaves much to be desired.

They are always running out of material, no one seems to be responsible for ensuring material stocks are maintained and it is only when a student requires a new book that they realize they ran out. Stationary is a joke with a couple of dried up boxes of colored marker pens, two or three pairs of scissors and a couple of glue sticks. Hardly adequate for an entire center and especially on a weekend when they are much busier.

These things coupled with the fact I found a higher paid job ensured my departure last year and I would not go back there again.

One thing I know is that the chances of them being closed down, regardless of who they screw around is unlikely I am sorry to say :(

The reason for this opinion, most teachers seem to be on business and student visas, at least all the ones I ever met were, so cannot begin any legal proceedings as it would result in them getting themselves into probably more trouble than Hampson and further than that and quite possibly more importantly, the owner of Hampson schools is closely related to a high ranking and well known member of the government leadership. I can't remember the guys name but I recognized his face from the TV when I saw framed photo of him stood with the owner of Hampson discussing the Hampson network. I asked what the photo was about and was told it is because they are closely related that he paid a visit which also appeared to have been quite publicized judging by the people you could see in the photo stood with cameras etc.

So it would seem they are well connected as far as the authorities are concerned which would probably explain why at a time when the government has been cracking down on illegal schools more than in the past, Hampson have stayed in the clear and would go to explain why the authorities seemed unwilling to do anything about the issue mentioned earlier in this thread.

Corruption and China eh, makes you feel like going to another Asian country to teach.
