Re SCHOOL IN BINZHOU by Ivy

As an Anglo Saxon I can confirm Ivy report.. Last year my college had a Philippina working at our college, the other Anglo Saxon told me " she's a good teacher ". On of my students told me last week, she was not offered a contact as she's not " white enough " shameful ! I won't be signing a new contract.

The Filipino, Ivy, from her post seemed to be heaping as much venom on white FT teachers as she was on the school, as if it's our fault that both the students and the rubbish outfit bosses have preference for white teachers. I include the students in this because in my experience they are more racist than the school leaders and very often decisions of this kind are taken after listening to the students. The school owners i am sure would employ a full compliment of African head-hunters in full regalia, as long as the students didn't mind and they could make loads of dosh.

As for the two Filipinos who have posted, they have as slender a grasp of English as the apparent westerner Spellbound, revealing what rubbish outfits all three of them work in, for ever employing them in the first place.

I worked for a 'school' once where they got rid of all their non-western coloured teachers because the students voted them out. Totally wrong, but what can FT's do about that one. We cannot correct all the faults of China. I therefore limit myself to defending the rights of Western FT's of whatever colour. The way these threads are going, perhaps we should take on the plight of single mums in Greater London.

I should add to my just-sent reply to you, that even if you do have(unlikely) racially accepting, fair-minded Chinese students in a school, their parents are not going to be the same and parents do put in their shillings-worth regarding FT's and what they think they should look like. They can quite easily take their little bundles of joy elsewhere if they feel they are not getting good service They may well think that a Filipino doesn't hit the spot compared to cool green-eyed dude from Pennsylvania, even if he's called Spellbound and severely challenged in the English department.

I feel we should not be clouding our minds with things beyond are capabilities of dealing with. We have not come to China on a Martin Luther King Pilgrimage.
