Re: Warning:Liyang Foreign Language School A.K.A Liyang English School

Paul, it's not illegal to reside on a tourist visa in any appartment on mainland. But you must register with the corresponding local police station that you live there and doing so you need the appartment owner with you. Working is sure not allowed on L visa, and you'd have to covert it into Z (work permit) under the new employer then. In such cases as yours, that may be quite impossible in the same town and that not only because your previous employer "owns" the local police station, but also because there're some new RESTRICTIONS/REGULATIONS. A Recommendation Letter (not only a Release Letter) is required if you change jobs or shall i say employers. There're scores of foreign teachers that've got issues with these restrictions/regulations on mainland and there're scores of employers that're taking advantage of the situation too.

From the story you're telling us, however, it does look like you have not had the appropriate residency/work permit and your employer has abused you there. If so, this should send a message to many on L visas on mainland how dangerous it can be. Local employers hiring illegally may get away easier than us.

Cheers and beers to packing and leaving, but i've got so much :(

Re: Warning:Liyang Foreign Language School A.K.A Liyang English School

I also had the same problem while I worked at Liyang Foreign language school. I had been working there for one year, the students were great, teachers great but Madame Li owns the police force there so be careful. Anyone that has that much money there owns everybody.

She also told the police i'd been working on wrong visa but she was one who didn't provide it for me. I had to leave on my birthday, with many tears (from myself included).

They often don't pay, if they do, it was late but the biggest problem was the power that the owner of the school had.

Warning:Liyang Foreign Language School A.K.A Liyang English School

There was a review about this school on this board some time ago, which truely spoke what i wanted to say,I have been a foreign teacher in this school with my wife and daugter for a few months. We were treated like dogs by madam Li and Jojo.At last we left and rented an apartment in the same city in order to work in another middle school there which was supposed to be a good school,Jojo reported to the local police that we illegally resided on tourism visa(Liyang could not provide work visa). So one night, police came and required us to leave immidiately.
Today I saw their AD on this board as Liyang English School, what i know is:the students are really bad as this is a private school----private schools in China are different, all the bad students who are not accepted by good public schools go there. The apartments for foreign teachers are horrible, all faded and empty.Madam Li treats people like shit. They keep gansters to keep the teachers silent and work hard.....so on and so forth.
I can not stop everyone if they want to try this school out,but be extremely careful.Madam Li is a big potato in Kaifeng, and whoever is agaist her will be shit on.

Below is the AD for you to look at:
