Re: Meten English, Wuhan, China

I know that many also consider Aston a "crap school," but to be honest, as an unexperienced teacher coming over for their first job in the market, I kind of expect to teach at a crap school for the first year.

My definition of a 'crap school in China' will differ from yours and what others define as one. But if I can find a school here that lets me teach my own way for one semester at least, without putting me under any kind of pressure or trying to fire me unfairly in order to avoid paying end-of-contract benefits such as air fare allowance and holiday travel allowance, I'd say it wasn't a crap school. For security of employment during the duration of your contract, you should stick to public employers. By the way, being inexperienced teachers, even those without university degrees, hasn't prevented many newbies from getting college or high school jobs in the public sector here up to now. You needn't work for a training centre, in my view.

A reliable and trustworthy recruiter I've had place me who might well be able to help you get a job in the public domain can be contacted by e-mail.
Her English name is Anne, and her e-mail is as follows:

Problem is, I haven't found any school that's really complaint free. Obviously, this is to be expected. However, every now and then you get someone harping on how awful they find a school, but it's difficult to determine if the organization truly mistreated them or if the individual just has an inflated sense of entitlement. It's hard to go off the opinions of handful of people with terrible experiences.

On a different note, I have friends that generally recommend Aston. Maybe I'll give them a try. I know that many also consider Aston a "crap school," but to be honest, as an unexperienced teacher coming over for their first job in the market, I kind of expect to teach at a crap school for the first year.

Which schools would you recommend, if you don't mind me asking?
