Re: ESLConsultant China & Liaoning Medical University

As for Elke de Fauw - she has rotted in that cesspool for 7 years and is trained to say what the "Bosses" want her to say to protect her job - PLUS she is furious at me for leaving as now she HAS TO teach the students I was assigned!

I can believe that....she came across as a GW with nothing better to do, nor anywhere else to go, from the beginning. 7 years in that hellhole, what a joke, what a GW.....

Re: ESLConsultant China & Liaoning Medical University

YES, maybe I did use the words "Communists" too much, but I know what they are like, having visited Poland and Russia many times before the fall of the Iron Curtain - BUT I WAS MAD!!! I was duped into believing them and I AGREE - it IS MY FAULT for not checking them out better! As for Elke de Fauw - she has rotted in that cesspool for 7 years and is trained to say what the "Bosses" want her to say to protect her job - PLUS she is furious at me for leaving as now she HAS TO teach the students I was assigned!

My "room" was not what they promised, it was NOT what they showed in the photos and if I knew how to post photos of what I was promised and what I lived in you would understand why I am so furious at my own stupidity for going there! As for me being a surgeon - irrelevant, as the Dean promised, on the phone, that I could work in the hospital in my "off time" to develop my skills further!! He even said if I stayed for two years I could get some additional certification! However, when I got there, the truth was that NO FOREIGN DOCTOR can work anywhere in China unless they pass the Chinese Medical Licensing Tests IN CHINESE! So I was lied to from the start, I have put it behind me and take my angry story for what it is - but I do recommend you stay away from a school that is ranked at over 5, 277 in the world - that tells you about the school! Also they have had many ESL Teachers like me run, another female surgeon ran after three weeks, one guy ran after 8 hours! As for going there... I went to experience the Far East and take a break from my hard work! And then when I was robbed by a Police Officer at the airport - that was enough! Yes, he was real Police, had ID and everything!

SO, take my angry post and sort out from it what you will, but they NEVER could show me the beautiful flat I was promised, even though I asked, as there NEVER was a beautiful flat! If you want to see the sewer I was put in - email me or tell me how to posts photos here!

Have a great day and good luck experiencing the Orient!

Re: ESLConsultant China & Liaoning Medical University

A school that cannot provide suitable accommodation for Western teachers in form of a self-contained apartment does not meet the SAFEA standards and regulations in that respect and hence should not be licenced to hire foreign teachers.

I don't know the details regarding Liaoning Medical College, but just the fact that both the OP Michael and Elke de Fauw (working for the school) confirmed that they just provided a room in foreign student building would put me off. Elke de Fauw also admitted that there may be occasional problems with the heating system - and that in an area where it is going ti be pretty cold in winter!- is something which I would not take. Is it perhaps for this reason that they seem to have difficulties to hire and keep foreign teachers? That place must be a poor provincial university in the middle of nowhere. Not my cup of tea, there are many and much better places to go.

I would agree that any public college or school should have to meet the SAFEA regs, but really, when you have rule by law, and not rule of law, what do you expect?

Regulations made by SAFEA are just suggestions that are made to be ignored imho.

Turnoi, in your opinion, where are better places to go? Trust me, South china can be just as cold with no internal central heating, when I lived in Changsha I have never experienced as horrible a winter anywhere, and I come from the far north of England. The south has terrible humidity in China,so winters can be miserably cold and damp, and summers humid and steamy. Swings and roundabouts, but I actually like the drier weather in the North of China, although I agree the biting siberian cold wouldn't be good for an older teacher.

Cheers
