Re: DALIAN ZHONGSHAN AIBAO LANGUAGE TRAINING School

the whole procedure, which as you say involves a medical and a Resident Permit, the latter only being issued by the local PSB if the medical report, including an HIV test, is satisfactory, and a Foreign Expert's Certificate is presented along with the medical.

Yo, but at the local PSB, the countersigned employment contract and a photocopy of same must be presented, and of course your passport must have an in-date Z visa, up to 30 days from your date of entry to the mainland.
But if the school decides not to offer you a contract, signed by the school itself, the whole process stalls, and your Z must be replaced by an L inside China before it expires, or else you'll be in big trouble,@ 500 RMB/ overstay day fine plus likely deportation.
Many schools will expect you to start teaching before you've got your RP - illegal, but they're holding all the aces, so you'd be better not to refuse to do so!

...the school will help to do the work visa, but it's not free
[4/24/2012 11:14:14 PM] Them: would you accept that?
[4/24/2012 11:14:19 PM] Me: How much is it?
[4/24/2012 11:15:22 PM] Them:
about
4000-5000

[4/24/2012 11:15:33 PM] Me: RMB?
[4/24/2012 11:15:38 PM] Them: yes

What I have highlighted in red is utter bullshit. To do the work visa costs MUCH MUCH LESS!

I shall still stick by my initial post. It seems you've misread my earlier post!

'To do the work visa' is the point, not to do the whole procedure, which as you say involves a medical and a Resident Permit, the latter only being issued by the local PSB if the medical report, including an HIV test, is satisfactory, and a Foreign Expert's Certificate is presented along with the medical.
Before the Z visa can be obtained, the foreigner must present a provincially verified letter of invitation, got through the prospective employer.

However, I do agree with you that that 'school' is one to avoid, unless you've no other job offers to consider.

What I have highlighted in red is utter bullshit. To do the work visa costs MUCH MUCH LESS! Anyways, why won't they follow the normal procedure of sending you an approved letter of invitation which you can present to a Chinese visa office/embassy in your homeland to obtain a work visa in advance of flying to China? I suspect they want to see if you're any good at teaching first. If not, they'll cut you loose on your travel visa in China. Typical training centre stingy practice - ONLY WORK FOR THEM AS A LAST RESORT.
And only an allowance for accommodation is not good either. They don't desreve any foreign teachers!

hi Malcolm
No, I would say they have given you a correct figure. It's quite a procedure, getting the paperwork to you. Converting that visa when you arrive, the medical, the expert's certificate, the resident's permit; this is all what they consider to be visa costs. The point is, the more it costs, the less you should want to pay for it yourself-No? Otherwise, you might spend half of your contract paying for everything.

Foreign teachers can be extremely unreliable and cost these schools a lot of money; however, I repeat, that is not your concern, pay for nothing yourself, except the actual visa fee at your local Chinese Embassy, that one being difficult to avoid. Sending the paperwork to you to obtain the visa is a total must. This particular school has shown its colors. Don't even think about going there. Poster Turnoi has their number.

Hi

That "allowance" deal is a minefield and unless one is experienced and fully aware of all the possible implications it is best avoided. I personally, my dear, would hang out for an apartment that goes with the job, I really really would do that.

Thank you for the information! I sent them an e-mail informing them that I have been in contact with four other schools that are willing to pay for my visa. The school did not offer accommodation only a allowance.

Re: DALIAN ZHONGSHAN AIBAO LANGUAGE TRAINING School

Initially paying for the actual visa i.e. when you go the Embassy, handover your application along with your expert certificate, letter of invitation and processing fee (probably closer $100 depending on where you are) is common place. As the previous poster pointed out you should then be reimbursed for this amount after a few months of working at the school.

However, it seems as though this school is asking you to send them money in order for them to go through the whole process at their end of getting the various documents. NEVER SEND A SCHOOL MONEY TO SECURE A POSITION! How do you know that the school even exists and/or is capable of getting you a z-visa? You may end sending them money only to never hear from them again. If this is not a scam then the school has done a good job of making it sound like one!

At least you've done the right thing in regards asking and in regards applying to multiple positions. There are so many schools out there in need of foreign teachers that you can always shop around for a better deal and you should certainly not take a position which places the financial risk upon you as opposed to the school.

Re: DALIAN ZHONGSHAN AIBAO LANGUAGE TRAINING School

Hello everyone! This is my first post. I am wondering about this school I have received a contract from them. However this was said during a skype chat,
[4/24/2012 11:14:02 PM] Them: just one problem, the school will help to do the work visa, but it's not free
[4/24/2012 11:14:14 PM] Them: would you accept that?
[4/24/2012 11:14:19 PM] Me: How much is it?
[4/24/2012 11:15:22 PM] Them: about 4000-5000

[4/24/2012 11:15:38 PM] Them: yes
[4/24/2012 11:15:50 PM] Me: How much is that in USD?
[4/24/2012 11:16:30 PM] Them: 650-700
[4/24/2012 11:17:12 PM] Them: let me tell you why the school wouldn't provide the visa
[4/24/2012 11:19:03 PM] Them: there was a teacher who promised to come to work here, but after the school helped to do the visa and arranged everything, the teacher just disappeared, so the school couldn't risk to do the same thing

This raised a red flag for me. This would be my first ESL job but I am not stupid. Has anyone any experience with this school or a similar problem?

Hi BigBoy
It is half of a fair point about the disappearing teacher. However, I would have replied "Fair enough but I will expect to be reimbursed after I've put in a couple of months work, and to have that entered on the contract????" That said they are probably a gang of thieves. You should not have any sympathy for sad tales of losses due to unreliable foreign teachers, it has nothing to do with you. Do not work for a school where you have to pay for anything; medical, visa, apartment, anything.
