Re: Ivy English School / Jiamusi, China

I haven't seen anything written about visa problems or visa problems regarding this center. So Doc, if you are content teaching there then keep it going. I have worked in a lot of different schools over the years and can safely say that it was only when I was working in a training center that I was actually “teaching” and could see students improving. Working at a public school or university turned out to be as useless for me as it was for the students. Try to give tests and school changes the grads anyway. Forget about teaching the students, the school just wants you to say they have a foreign teacher so that makes you a decoration more than anything.

As for the negative nay sayers here, don’t mind them. This teaching board has become the online equivalent of an expat bar, a place for all to come and complain and whine about everything Chinese. Especially, the losers that complain about China not following the laws in his/her home country.

"IF" you are truly an "instructor" as you say, would you not know the difference between "your" and "you're"? That is basic grammar. I question your statement that you have been an "instructor" for 7 years. If your (this is the PROPER use of this word) employer saw this basic grammatical error, they may question your qualifications as an "instructor." And I can assure you that I am a teacher at Ivy and Adam and I are two distinctly different individuals.

Doc, you and your buddy are WoW I am lost for words... Again, if your not board certified then your not a teacher. IF you are board certified you would be working at an international schools making 5 times your current salary. I have been doing this job as an INSTRUCTOR over 7 years. got my point yet ? Those of us ex pats who have been doing this job a few years know without question training schools SUCK !

Re: Ivy English School / Jiamusi, China

I am also a teacher at Ivy. I agree with Adam and other current teachers who have posted on this site. Ivy is a wonderful school in Jiamusi. There was a previous teacher who "lived like a pig" and it is because of this one person, apartment inspections are currently performed. If that person had not been such a "pig" inspections would not be required. The Director at Ivy school is an incredibly wonderful, caring and giving Chinese woman who looks after the foreign English teachers like they were her family. This is my first experience teaching abroad and I am extremely pleased with Ivy. I don't think that a person could do much better than teaching at Ivy. Also, the teacher who "lived like a pig" also physically destroyed property at his apartment upon his departure from the school. I never had the "pleasure" of meeting this individual, but he sounds like a real "class act". The current group of teachers at Ivy are an incredibly professional group of individuals and I am proud to say that I am a teacher at this school and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
