Re: Demo lessons

To be honest, this is less of a problem in the laissez faire public sector where you are given no textbook and told just teach!

Also, most Chinese students are reticent to challenge authority or question their teacher in the public sector, I would imagine the spoiled brats in kindergartens and crappy TC's are another kettle of fish altogether though, in my humble opinion.

To the school, students come first, not teachers.

Exactly, and that's the biggest failing of the way the Chinese education system is run. It means that job security for foreign teachers in China is an issue worthy of serious consideration by those foreigners who wish to venture to China to teach EFL. No use to spend a lot of money to get here to teach, and then be dismissed from your job after a month or two.

I agree with you, Turnoi. When training schools are desperate for teachers, they will accept any Tom, Dick and Harry. The teacher may get the job after giving a demo lesson but may lose it if students complain about his or her teaching or accent. The school has no choice but to listen to their ‘clients’ because it depends on them for its existence. To the school, students come first, not teachers.
