Re: S.I.E. Shenyang, China

Hi guys

I may be going to SIE to teach English in September. Can anybody give me a little info about the school, city or the people? You could also tell me about your experiences with SIE. Any info would be helpful.

Regards
Rusha :)

Re: S.I.E. Shenyang, China

Today one occasion, I read this message and I read all the messages posted here by different teachers who have different feelings while they are working in China. I hardly described my feeling about this as I do speak English a lot everyday from my work and do feel understanding most of western cultures however I am still a Chinese and still have big gap to improve my English. So hope my message here will not let all of you misunderstand me.

I am the person who recruit English teachers for my school of couse SIE, I have been working with Foreign teachers from USA, CANADA... SINCE 2001, being friends, liasion and recruiter, my past working experience with FT are most of time good and enjoyable and luckily I also make friends with most of them and get along well with them but of course not all of them. Why? Lots of reasons, you can guess.

While I am working, I met or meet all different kinds of foreign teachers, both good and bad. I still keep touch with most of Former teachers who have been teaching here.I think I did most of jobs to make FTs here work and live happier, however you always are going to meet someone who never feels good enough and satisfied. That I never can work out to make it better.

The post in 2008 named Doc, even now when most of foreign teachers have a conversation, we still talk about him, I knew he posted sth here in 2008, but I was told by our foreign teachers at that time to ignore him as most of people will know what kind of teacher he is from his posts. But from the posts I read today, I guess not everyone will quite understand the details and feelings I had.

The doc does hold a doctor degree but didnt do and show what the high educations has been giving to him. I still felt hurt from that time, I think our school did all we can, honest, follow the contract, process the regular documents, pay on time, care about the right and benefits that foreign teachers deserve and etc. to make teachers happy here, but when you meet someone to force you to do things, demanding things and never feel satisfied, complaining, personal I dont know what else I can do. When that doc. came here, I personal lent him a computer as he doesnt have one, and then he posted those, what do I feel? Possible if they are President, King or Queen, they probably can get everything. I wonder when you live in your own house or rent an apartment, havent you met any maintainance problems? Are they always in good conditions?

The world is not perfect, everybody knows, and we always are going to meet this or that kind of probem, what we could do is trying to make it better, like those problems that doc. said, different personaility and people show different oppinions and attitudes, I luckily at that time had some teachers who show me their understandings and supporting to me. I still appreciate it.

I thanks for all the posts here no matter what you said is positive or not, at least I know there are always different personalities and opponions in the world. Always know. I also know the people will give me lots of critics after I post it, but I still want to do it. I will still follow my work ethic and always welcome the professional teachers to join my team. I have nothing to hide, and always welcome the positive and nagative suggestions to make my work better. I think most of teachers who have been working with me for the past ten years will support my work always. And I suggest everyone who come to China to open your mind, look at China with both postive and nagative sides, then you will see a new China and life here will bring you a happy, enjoyable experience.

Re: S.I.E. Shenyang, China

No, I think I wrote my last post really clumsily, I am in fact a big supporter of, LondonGirl, and I hope the moderators allow me to correct the wrong impression I gave when I wrote a too hurried a post.

What I meant to say was this. One doesn't have to really love teaching to teach and do a good job of teaching in China. I don't like teaching but it allows me to live in China and do the other things that I do enjoy, like climbing mountains and talking and practising my Mandarin with ordinary Chinese people, far away from the school or university.

As far as the Seedy-Six is concerned, I have never actually met their likes in any of the schools I have taught in. I do not agree with their behaviour; however ,I have seen relationships develop unintentionally between FT's where no predatory behaviour was intended. I hoped to discuss my differences with LondonGirl on this forum but she seems(her posts) seem to have abruptly and mysteriously gone missing today. Perhaps she is too busy.

Whereas the Seedy -Six [edited] I think it is possible that one or more of them could be, technically speaking, good teachers. This was another possibility I would have liked to have discussed with Clyde as well....but he is also missing so far today. Perhaps they are both out on a picnic together.

Sorry once again for my badly written and misleading post, and hope you will still be able to offer me your support. I will e-mail this to LondonGirl, in case the Moderators decide to not include this post.

Tianjindave, your post is 100% common sense. It is realistic and I think you have done a great job of educating that Londoner woman who's been posting tripe on the board. It's a pity there are so-called educators who are in need of enlightenment themselves re teaching matters and teachers. But I suppose English people like to put people into little boxes! Still, they should refrain from doing that way!

Re: S.I.E. Shenyang, China

You mean they want them to talk to real teachers who care about their classes more than they do womanising and drinking? They want them to talk to somebody who came here to teach because they love teaching, not for a free visa to womanise and drink cold beer? Yes, how awful of the school to want them to talk to their best employers not their worst!

I don't actually believe that to 'love' teaching is the sole domain of the teachers who keep their hands off of the students ,LondonGirl. i wouldn't dream of groping my students like your slimy-six like to do, but i hate loathe and detest teaching. Teaching gives me the opportunity of coming to China, climbing some mountains and drinking some beer. That said, my students and the school say they learn a lot from me.

It is also possible that some of the slimy six actually love teaching(when they are not groping students) Things are not that tidy or clear cut, are they? They could even be good teacher, albeit with disgusting habits.
