Re: World International English , Nantong China

I have been to nantong myself and I have to say there is a plethora of training centers that are new there. The city keeps on adding more and more every year. Eventually something like this was bound to happen. I personally have heard from a contact who works in the city talk about the inherent cheapness of people who live there locally. I have also heard this from Chinese who are not native to Nantong say the same thing. Let's hope more bad publicity from these pretend schools from this city get exposed!

I need to issue a warning to all ESL teachers worldwide who may be considering working for World International English. The general contract period is for one year. During this time, monthly salary is to be paid on the 10th of each [contract!] month. This is in the language of the contract. For example, if you begin in Aug., your contract would run through the end of July the following year. You are supposed to receive 12 monthly salary payments during this contract year, not AFTER the contract year the following month! However, that is not what World will do. They will withhold your month's salary and pay you for that month during the next contract month pay day. This is a direct breech of contract. And no matter how common the practice of doing this may be, they are in violation of the written contract. If you question them concerning this policy, they will generally give you the snub and blow you off.

And that is why I quit. What they are not telling you, is that in the bank accounts of the various World Centers, they draw interest and make profit off of each month's total student earnings. Therefore, by withholding your salary for one month, they can draw more interest for a year's earnings. This may be the common practice, however it is not contractual and by no means should be tolerated by any English language professional. Most Universities hold to their stated contracts and pay you in the same contract month. That is the standard procedure for ESL teachers in China.

I issue this stern warning to all ESL teachers considering working for World International English, Nantong. It has been a very nebulous, unprofessional and dishonest experience even during the probation period. As an employee and English professional, I can honestly say that they failed the probation period dismally. I left based upon their breech of contract, and I warn all to stay as far from it as possible.

Sincerely.
