Re: A Sad Sad Day......... - ESL school review

Hi Michael!!

I am sorry but I cannot recommend a good school in Kaifeng as I have never been there. I was going to go there a long time ago but heard too many negative things about the city and the school. Currently I am working in Shanghai and I am very happy here......Let me know if you want to work in Shanghai....perhaps I can point you in the right direction.

Dear Jules,
Can you recommend a good school in Kaifeng, China that I may enroll a friend, so she may learn and/or improve her English.
Thank you so much for your help. I am so disappointed with all the negative that I am reading also.
Thank you again for any thoughts you may offer.
Michael

A Sad Sad Day......... - ESL school review

Hello there fellow teachers,

I just have to write this post because I am very saddened by what I have been reading. I have been teaching in China since the late 90's and cannot believe what is happening out there. I can remember back then how wonderful schools were, and how being cheated was a rare thing. Now when I look at this board it is just so depressing, where have all the good schools gone?

For the most part I have been very lucky to have worked for some very good schools. It was only when I dealt with the China Network that things went totally downhill. One of the girls working there named Helen is nothing but a complete liar and cheat. She put me into a school that was not authorized to hire foreign teachers and ended up costing me thousands of RMB. This is totally my own fault as I should have done my research better but "live and learn."

After that horrific year I found a great school in a charming city and have come to the conclusion that it is just better for me to stay here as long as I am in China. I have never had a problem with my school and my life is carefree and very relaxed. My advice is, if you are in a great school now it is probably better to just stay there than taking a chance. Unless you are 100% sure about your new school and you have proof of them being legal ( they can send you the Invitation letter beforehand )and you have also spoken to other foreign teachers who are there than just stay put. I know alot of teachers will tell me they change schools so they can travel around China but honestly it just doesn't seem worth it these days. We have so many holidays that you can use this time to go travelling.

Last year China was short thousands of FT, I think it is time for them to ask why.........Have a great day and I wish everyone success in their lives.....

P.S. I am not a big fan of Larry Romanoff but he does have a great info pack for Foreign Teachers...Definately worth reading!!!
