Re: Aston English, Lianyungang - ESL school review

Could you please tell me when this supposedly happened? I'm not asking for spesific dates, but I do know most of the FT's who used to work for Aston and still live here so I would like to ask around and see if someone know what actually happened. I don't doubt you when you say that that someone got into trouble with the PSB, but I know some of the people working there pretty well and it isn't unusuall that they check up on foreigners so it doesn't have to be that someone reported the person. It is not only the person with the L visa that gets into trouble if a person gets caught by the PSB, the school gets a pretty big fine as well, so reporting someone that worked for your school can be a pretty big chance to take.

I chose to ignore you specifically because I know the place well enough from someone who used to work there. I don't know about you but having the Chinese Boss (I believe her surname is "He") who lies to you about how it is okay to work on an L Visa, then promptly report you to the PSB because you decided to leave her company for another place for working on the wrong visa is a form of behavior that is relegated to barbarians who "use and lose" people. It just so happens that in China you will find many, many Chinese bosses who think like this. What a bunch of scumbags!

Re: Aston English, Lianyungang - ESL school review

You are right, I have no vested interest in the company, but I like the place I work and I don't fully agree that Aston is built on a faulty business model. The prices aren't that high so you don't have to be rich to study there, the kids are having a lot of fun, they actually learn English (most importantly), and the structural organisation of the franchise makes it possible to complain to higher levels if you, the FT, are not able to fix a problem at the local level. I have seen it happen and it works. I can not speak of the past however, only for the present. And just to be clear, I do agree that the industry of teaching in China foster a lot of vultures who don't give a damned about the kids, and who's main goal is to cheat people out of money. I'm also open to the fact that there might be Aston franchisees run by that kind of people, but the local management of one place is different from the next and I can truly say that it's not like that where I work.

So, neither me or my ego was offended by what you said about the ownership of Aston Lianyungang, but I just didn't see how that mattered in the discussion regarding whether it is a good place to work or not. And when you posted it the way you did together with your other comment, it did seem to me like you put some negative emphasis on that fact. But you are of course allowed to think whatever you want about their business model, and I'm sorry if you feel that I was overly defensive towards you and that your attention was caught by that part of my reply to you.

The main point in my reply to you was regarding the personal characterization of the owner which you indicated based on nothing more than hearsay, and which Turnoi, based on nothing more than your comment, emphasized as a "fact" and a reason to stay away from the whole of Aston in his next post. That however, you apparently chose to ignore.....

Red, Aston is built on a faulty business model. As for the relative holding a stake thing I was merely stating a fact. If that makes you feel overly defensive then I am at a loss as to why you would fee that way. You have no vested interest in this company, and there is no need for you to take your own ego into the argument.

Re: Aston English, Lianyungang - ESL school review

Of course people have different opinions and different experiences. Personally I think the situation at Aston Lianyungang to day is very good, and, like I said, I have no problem recommending the place to others. My review is based on my own experience working here during the past 6 months, and I stand for it.

What pisses me off is that you, Turnoi, refer to all of Aston as crap, it's a f***ing big franchise man, and you don’t even specify where you used to work or what made you and "all those other people" you refer to hate it so much.....

And, Alternate, as for posting negative personal characteristics based on: "I heard from someone that used to work there that she supposedly did something bad to someone else once upon a time.....", it isn’t even worth commenting, much less base an opinion on...... And what is wrong with several stakeholders? Its a family run business/investment just like most other business in China. Why is that even an issue?
