I know of this school all to well. I'm sure there are some decent KidCastle franchises out there, but I would certainly avoid the ones in Shanghai. There are plenty of schools who actually put money into creating a nice work environment and suitable classrooms. The manager of foreign teachers, despite being Canadian, is rather brutish in his dealings with other teachers. He's a decent teacher but not a particularly good manager. The school works him to death and bosses him around a lot. I guess he thought he could treat other teachers the same way. Luckily, we aren't all pushovers. The school has also broken contracts before and even withheld teachers' salaries. Don't waste your time with them; it's not worth the risk.

I saw that ad too, and know teachers who have worked for KidCastle in Shanghai. All I ever hear are bad things about them. Apparently the foreign management is utterly useless. I guess one teacher finally got the nerve to speak up. Hopefully, that school will learn something and change the way they treat foreigners. Wishful thinking, I know.

Come teach for the remarkably unprofessional organization known as KidCastle. Here you will be treated with the least respect possible and we will attempt to push you around and walk all over you as we see fit. Although our Chinese staff is wonderful, our Chinese management and foreign go-between (Mark B.) are a little lacking in the area of professional conduct. We are, according to one recruiter, "unconcerned with the quality of teaching" and we help our students learn by drilling the same 4-6 words into their heads for each 1.5 hour session. You'll get to spend your office hours in a cramped office with swarms of mosquitos, and you will have the opportunity to teach in our state-of-the-art classrooms that are equipped with a run-down, stained whiteboard and erasers that no longer erase. We have withheld pay from several teachers in the past without due reason. We fire teachers and withhold their pay for refusing to work on a day that they had requested off 2-4 weeks in advance. Of all the schools in Shanghai, you should choose KidCastle. We really need the teachers. Why else do you think we're always advertising???
