Re: Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine - ESL school review

I have taught at this school. It is not a bad school, but they are careless, thoughtless people who work with the Foreign Teachers. They told me that they were located in Nanchang. This is not true they are an hour away from the city and there is only bus that can take to the city. The are not helpful at all. Especially the people who are supposed to be your support staff. If you need something, good luck.

I asked about the meal card and was told that I could just pay cash for it by the FAO. I asked several times. Then I go to eat and the Food Service Director yells and screams at me that I need to have a card. Refuses to give me food. Next day I go to the FAO and she tells me the same thing. I tell what has happened, she says "Oh don't worry." She could care less. I asked can I get a card, she tells me yes I can, just go down to the bank and purchase one. I ask if I can do it now. She tells me sure. I go down, and they refuse me. She couldn't care less. All she wants to do is get me out of HER office. I am just a problem to deal with. I go back and start yelling at her, she is now scared. Everything is different now. Do not expect to get mail there either. The most unhelpful bunch of people around. They took me to the post office and left me there, no way to get back, not worrying about me. If you are a guy, don't have a grown girlfriend. I've seen guys get the local students and they have no problem with that, but I had a girlfriend, who speaks great English and the guard calls her a whore and demeans her. I asked about this and they have comment about this.

They have no course curriculum, you are just there to speak English and show that the school has Foreigners there. If you just want to hang around in China, screw with young girls and do nothing, then this is your school. God forbid if you actually need something, then it is a major deal. You should see the all the eye rolling and heavy sighing that they do when you ask them for help.

One teacher actually broke down in tears, when she had repeatedly asked about a package that had been expecting for two weeks, found out that it was in town and that they just didn't mention it. When she asks them to get it, they refuse. She can't take it anymore and starts to cry with loud sobs. The students see this and then they react and start to do their job.

People here are low-class and have an attitude about them. Good luck.

Try this link for a very different, and I would argue much more accurate picture of this school which
___allows its guard to physically threaten foreign teachers___ with zero repercussions.

____They don't deliver your mail.___ A number of teachers have had lost mail and some of it was found in a pile in the office months after being delivered to the office.

They do pay more or less on time, though. Wow, what a great school!

Teaching at Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
I am a returning teacher to Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I enjoy working here. I have found the staff to be friendly and courteous when dealing with me. We teach 16 hours a week any over time is paid in a timely fashion. The school has asked me if I would like to renew my contract and I have agreed. There are several other foreign teachers who have also renewed their contracts here with the schools. The two most important things to me are my living conditions and my pay. I have never had a problem with my pay and the apartment on campus the school provides is comfortable, roomy and clean. I have heard and read horror stories on the internet of teachers being cheated and living in unheard of places. This is not the case here. Is it perfect? No, if you are looking for perfection I suggest you stay at home. If you are looking for good place to work and where the FAO will treat you respectfully then I think Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the place for you. Please feel free to email with any question you may have.
