Anywhere outside of Chengdu is VERY boring, but then Chengdu itself is not so great. Bring books, have something to study, internet in your apartment will be a must. Very provincial places, deyang and mianyang are indeed.

What's wrong with the school? I have an offer to teach there in Sept.
Do they treat you badly, is it a very small town? What is it that you don't like?

This means she will try to get your visa either F thru connection which you are not allowed to work with, and you are to shoulder all the cost from medical to your expert certificates.
Be careful.
