Re: GEVU- ought to be investigated/China teacher - ESL school review

That being the case, and since you seem to have discovered where their operating headquarters are,why don't you take the further initiative of reporting them to the proper authorities in England? As you have said, they are all over the web trying to lure teachers; furthermore, there have have been numerous complaints about them, and I doubt you would have too much difficulty finding teachers willing to back you up on your claim that they are fraudulent.
I've dealt with GEVU myself in the past by following a link in what seemed to be a reputable website. Yes, they often post ads for high paying jobs that don't seem to pan out and then of course is the matter of the payment they expect from you to get such a job. NEVER PAY RECRUITERS...............NEVER PAY RECRUITERS..............NEVER PAY RECRUITERS. It's been written here and elswhere countless times, yet people still fall victim to these scams.

GEVU- ought to be investigated - ESL school review

gevu run by a few phd students at sussex university in england ought to be shut down for fraud. they do a lousy job, and it upsets me that they make teachers more cautious about going to teach in china.

why should you avoid them?
1. like a lot of smaller agencies they lie in their adverts. "shanghai/beijing/shenzhen, 6000+ a month" - location and money - it seems to be too good to be true-and it is. There's always a catch. The school doesn't exist and you are farmed to a crummy private language school, or else you are asked to pay a heck of a lot of money for the placement.

2. they share the details of your cv with 3rd parties. Look at the chinese version of their website (click top-right) and you'll see thousands of CVs they've put up. Absolutely criminal. they do this as a marketing ploy to lure in any old school to work with them. they probably never even check the credentials of the schools.

search on the web and you'll find plenty of unhappy people who have been thru gevu. gevu aren't really interested in promoting english in china and cultural exchange. Sad thing is they are dealing with people who have a genuine interest in china.

Re: GEVU -- Global Education Volunteers - ESL school review

Yep, these guys are great........not! They promise you the world and give you nothing; unless of course you pay them a ridiculous sum of money for their services. I'm sure that anyone who is a regular visitor to this site has seen their job offers. They're almost always high paying jobs in and around Shenzhen. That's their lure - the "high paying" part, but later, after you've gone to the trouble of sending your documents and they find you "acceptable," gee, guess what, they want you to pay an upfront fee and sign a promise to pay more from your first months salary. What a scam.
Hey GEVU! If I'm wrong, please feel free to tell me right here in the forum. If you don't respond with a well thought out reply, well, as we say, "The truth is in the pudding."

Yes, it makes you wonder... - ESL school review

The only thing I can offer to underscore the comments from "job seeker," is that for the past month, I have been applying for numerous teaching positions in China. Because I have years of teaching experience in China (and in the U.S. as well), and I also have two masters degrees, I usually receive a reply from schools/organizations/recruiters very quickly. (Of course, this does not mean that future negotiations are successful, or that I accept the position).

Twice in the past month, I have inquired about and/or applied for positions posted by Global Volunteers Teachers Union. Each time, no reply or interest shown from GEVU.

I wonder who is their most desired job candidate??? Hmmmm....

GEVU -- Global Education Volunteers - ESL school review

I don't know what sort of scam operation Sandy and GEVU are running, but they have zero follow through and lots of ready lies for applicants.

First there's an opening, then it is filled before you have time to blink. Ok, what about the other openings? Sure they say, and then they don't get back to you! You can contact them again, but Sandy intercepts the emails to the boss or maybe she is the boss. Either way, a joke of a business.

You will waste your time with these fiends telling you they have jobs for you when in fact they have nothing but sweet smelling lies. DOn't waste your precious time with them because they have no connection to reality.
