Re: na wen, Eton British English School, Bayuquan

So, I'm in Bayuquan now... Modern and clean, from what I see so far, yes. But large? Don't be silly, the village where my apartment is based back in the city that I work in has a higher population than the entire Bayuquan district of Yingkou.

I don't really think it is an ideal place for new foreigners to work in, unless you are on a big expat package, with people doing everything for you. A nice area but nothing is in English, it is modern but not really westernised in any way, it's not exactly a cheap place in some respects as it appears to be the desirable part of Yingkou. The night-life looked a bit questionable, but I'm not really up here to party right now. They got a Carrefour about 3 months ago apparently.

It is part of a newly developed zone in China next to the Bohai sea with state of the art bullet train which services most of the major cities.

Oh, I smell a tiny bit of Chinglish there! Close, but no cigar.

Bayuquan is described as a 'small town' which gives an inaccurate description which is laughable. Bayuquan is large, modern and clean. It is part of a newly developed zone in China next to the Bohai sea with state of the art bullet train which services most of the major cities.

Sounds like a beautiful advertisement, lol.

Well, I'm actually visiting the place next month and I'll see for myself. I will take photos, post them up and ridicule you if it turns out to be a shithole.

Got friends there in other industries, that I know from when I worked in a nearby city. The say that the training centres can pay around 10 to 12k, but they are just training centres, so it is not exactly the best place to go to teach really. Would only consider working up there if offered a job in an industry that is not related to teaching.

However, regardless of the fact that there are indeed a few wealthy individuals around there, it's not exactly going to be as a developed as even the suburbs of Dalian, a few hours away. Even if there's a few new golf courses, it doesn't hide the fact that many people in local village are on a different socio-economic level. I'd even argue that some of these new development zones can get a bit dirty, Bayuquan is just a suburb of Yingkou which isn't a big city by Chinese standards anyway.

Regarding earlier comments posted by a previous teacher I feel that I must offer a vastly different opinion regarding the school, the owner and the staff.

To try and influence prospective employers this school was defined as best to 'avoid like the plague'. This is an absolutely horrific description created purely to deter future teachers, I will refrain from offering criticism of the poster because I do not agree in giving unbalanced and unsupported views.

I have experienced only kindness and lots of help and understanding whilst working for the owner and the school. I have had no issues with pay or working hours and the accommodation is absolutely fantastic. The staff are fully supportive to any requests regarding teaching and any other issues that have arisen from living in a foreign country. Bayuquan is described as a 'small town' which gives an inaccurate description which is laughable. Bayuquan is large, modern and clean. It is part of a newly developed zone in China next to the Bohai sea with state of the art bullet train which services most of the major cities.

The school has recently moved into a brand new purpose built school which offers fantastic facilities (air conditioned classrooms, interactive whiteboards etc) combining with small class sizes (max 12 students per class) which is vastly different to what many schools or language schools offer in China.

The owner is willing to offer short term contracts for suitable candidates in order for them to make their own decision regarding the school (which includes payment of flights etc). Which is something I have rarely seen on the vast majority of job offers in China. I must stress that this would apply to suitable candidates and not those who want a paid holiday!

I am also available to contact regarding any questions you may have about the school, the owner, the staff and Bayuquan itself and will give an honest and unbiased opinion based on my experience of the school.

Wot does the 'na wen' bit mean, I have never heard of that before? As for the other- did they get permission from Eton college before ripping off their name? i agree with the likes of Silverboy, a filched name spells trouble. But I could be wrong[doubt it]- how many contact details would an FT be provided by the company in order to obtain references?
