Re: Qingdao University of Science and Technology QUST

When I was in Qingdao last year (Ocean Uni), I had heard from other foreigners that accomodation at your uni was crap as it had been in my case at Ocean Uni (they hired me as one of their foreign professors). And from what I know on a wider scale, most of the public and private schools there provide crap housing. It is sub-standard, a breach of the contract, and it violates the rules laid down by the National Bureau of Foreign Experts. Schools that do not provide the minimum standard should be reported to the Foreign Expert Bureau; they might lose their license to hire foreigners.

Filthy and crap apartments provided by schools is an act of not providing the necessary living conditions. You have the right to cancel the contract, see the Bureau of Foreign Experts about it, provide your documents, proof of the actual situation (apartment photos) and tell them you have warned the school about it several times and that they did nothing. Now, you will cancel the contract because of breach of the contract on the school's part. You can ask that the school pay the fine that has been stipulated in the contract for such cases.

Teach these idiots a lesson and make some noise!

Struth, mate, that was bad luck. I'm an old hand in China, been hanging around for four years, so I must know a thing or two. You must get genuine pictures of the accommodation they intend to put you in. In addition you need to be allowed to speak to current teachers, and ask them what things are like. Follow just those two advices and you'll be better off. Whatever you do or don't do, do not mix it with FEB. Don't go anywhere near them.
