Haha... Shiling. Knew a really weird guy with a handbag factory there. Anyway, that place must be the illegal hukouless migrant worker capital of Guangzhou, if not the whole of Guangdong.
These areas in Huadu tend to treat teachers badly, it seems that this is not an issue for them as they treat their own people badly anyway.
There must be only Peizheng College that ever employs any foreign teachers legally in Huadu and that place is the most famous of all shitty universities!
I kind of like Huadu in general, but Shiling is really a place for running a sweatshop, not teaching English, lol.
This is a small school located in a tiny town that is 30-45 minutes by bus to the nearest large city. Once you are hired you don't get to teach at the school except on Saturdays (one of your days "off") and the rest of the time you will be sent to other schools in Huadu. They will provide you with a driver but you will have to leave with the other teachers usually around 7 or 8 a.m.. Then you will have to stay at the school you will teach at until 5 or 6 p.m.. Sometimes there won't be any water to use all day which really, really sucks because it is unbearably hot in Guangzhou.
The Chang's who own the school will require you to work at at least 2 school each semester one week at a time sometimes 3 over a two week period. The work is fun and not stressful but you will have to prepare all of your own lessons with 0 resources (NO printer, copier or scanner). You get very little support from anybody and have to fend for yourself.
I liked the job but hated the living arrangements and schools location
