It has snowed on occasion as I heard of there, which kind of disproves the, oh we are in the south of china, so we are sub-tropical argument. When I think tropical I think of coconut trees and warm winters, sub tropical implies below tropical, so everything but the warm winters....Zhejiang is WAY off.

They actually had snow while I was there! First time in 11 years... The kids went mental and for some reason the locals built snow chickens... Very odd place!

I agree that the flipside of the humidity in places like Zhejiang, also equates to miserable, cold, damp winters. How I longed for real snow like in north china and central heating during those miserable, oppressive winters.Sub-tropical is being a bit optimistic in how they categorize Zhejiang, it does not have banana or eucalyptus trees like guangdong province has, and even there it gets cold in winter!!!!!

I hated the humidity of the south. I couldn't have stayed there for more than the year that I did... Your baldness disagrees with the north as much as my long, fine hair disagrees with the south! I also much preferred the food in the north, the only place I enjoyed eating in Taizhou was either the Japanese restaurant near Tesco, the YiDing hotel on Brazilian BBQ nights or Johns Pizza place that opened abbout 2 months before I left! Hahaha, I remember when that opened me and the other FTs pretty much lived there for at least a fortnight!!

Dalian is a little more expensive, but I was still able to save several thousand pounds in the year I was there, and I still lived very comfortably, eating at U-No at least once a week... I actually really miss their burgers! And don't get me started on the sushi places in Dalian! OMG, I miss those so much.... Italy and Spain really don't do sushi very well!!

To each their own. Also Dalian is a rather expensive city, at least for an FT. The south is cheaper as well as warmer. End of story.

Okay, we get it. You don't like the cold.

But why do you feel it's important to announce this to the world, and what has it got to do with ESL/EFL?

I would imagine Dalian like most northern cities is bitterly cold in winter. To quote vin diesel (a fellow baldie), from the fast and the furious, I DON'T DO COLD!!!!

Dalian is a lovely city to work in. Very clean, not so much pollution, very green and great facilities. The two times I had cause to have need of the police during my time there they were helpful, supportive and courteous.

For a Westerner, Dalian offers a lot of home comforts, some great restaurants and an eclectic social scene.

If you can get a job there, go for it! But jobs there are few and far between as it's such a popular location to live and work.

I have friends in Hangzhou and they love it there. I've visited myself and found it to be a charming place. In fact had I not moved to Dalian, Hangzhou would have been a major consideration for me.

In regards to the OP, get yourself to the closest embassy and explain your situation. You should never go to any foreign country, especially one as corrupt as China, without information about the location of your nearest embassy, an open return ticket and at least enough cash to buy you a way home.
