Re Happy Town English, Haikou

thank you dear sir, and happy 2015 to you and yours!!

Sadly the fish and chips shops are a dying breed, you are more likely to be able to get turkish food or some pizza from an indian as opposed to the goodness of fish and chips, sorry state of affairs.

Well, I'm afraid you're right. Fish&Chips will be replaced as will the Brit as we know them/ourselves. We all get replaced sooner or later somebody else takes possession. The crescent will fly over Downing Street one day I'm sure. Then in the far distant future they will have had their day and somebody else will take over.

I come from Bolton

The best fish&chips in the world are fried in Bolton. And I like the curry sauce and mushy peas. You must be very proud? Culinary genius, nothing less! Happy New Year to you.

Weather isn't everything...

It can be, if like me and millions of others, you suffer from S.A.D, I come from Bolton, a medium sized satellite town of Greater Manchester, winters are bleak and even summer is not guaranteed sunshine, the northwest of england has the highest rainfall in England I think, now somewhere like Devon or East anglia which is the driest part might be nicer. Certainly winters in the gulf states are far nicer than winters in ye olde england. Where do you hail from good sir?

Weather isn't everything... The U.K can actually be quite a nice country to live in, London is a place that appeals to millions all over the world, the likes of Birmingham and Manchester are also quite cool places that have a slightly international feel thanks to their student population and immigrant communities. Many Spaniards actually study in the U.K for a few years then go home too, as for chefs all over the world; they tend to be happy to work anywhere and often relish the opportunity to work in foreign countries and learn about different culinary traditions, especially those that prefer temp work to long term contracts.

In fact there's many cold or cold and wet places around that are pleasant places to live... I'd happily live in Austria or many cities in Germany, but my German is absolutely terrible, so unless there's a good reason to set up my own thing there, I can merely visit for now I think. Likewise, you might find it hard to beat the standard of living in many Scandinavian countries.

Fair enough mate. We don't always have to agree on everything. I am just saying being unemployed in europe is soul crushing.Spanish people are working in starbucks or spanish restaurants in the UK, rather than be unemployed in Spain. And given the UK has much grimmer weather than Spain, that says a lot, sadly. Things will get worse before they get better.
