I'm going to give you some advice now. You've stated before that you are 38 and EFL is all you can do. OK, so I want you to consider where it will take you. If I was in your shoes I would change direction and see if teaching Business English is a possibility. You say you are fluent in spoken Chinese so think about how you could use this skill by re-branding yourself. Get some business cards printed, put your smartest clothes on and leave the card with the receptionist in a range of companies or hotels. Apart from the initial expense and your time, what have you got to lose? You may get lucky and a find a new direction.

I don't know about the other poster but when advising other posters in general we need to discount that claim of being fluent in Mandarin- it is always nearly without exception a tall story. Why FT's falsely claim to be fluent in Mandarin is a mystery because you don't need any ability in the language to teach, live or work in China successfully.

In general when somebody is failing it's not a question of changing direction say from writing to business it's a question of them pulling that finger out and taking a direction which doesn't lead you past 7/11 and the booze counter. Also shaking off that aggression which will lead you into trouble.
