The visa crap is what irks many, and those with degrees will look elsewhere.
Yes, Beijing does attract the loons and misfits, that is a fact. I know of one fat, lazy, pipe dreamer with no degree there who thinks education is a business, and even admires the Chinese and loves Beijing, he got a fake degree in HK.

Chinese authorities have begun systematic enforcement activities in several provinces to locate foreign teachers who are working illegally. Requirements to work legally have been elevated in Beijing and Shanghai. Recruitment agents and Training Centers employing foreign teachers without proper foreign expert certificates are being fined. The foreign teachers are being deported, often without pay.
How do you know all this? Are your sources trustworthy?
How about the elevations in the requirements to work legally in Beijing and Shanghai? What are they precisely?
Which provinces entail 'the several'?
How about the autonomous regions? Are they exempt at this time?
Are Hong Kong visa runs to replace L visas for China with Z visas for China still doable?

There are some legitimate and well-managed training centers, but they are a small minority of the industry. They will provide you with documentation to acquire a Z visa BEFORE you leave your own country.

And most of them will wait until the last minute before getting you your residence permit, letting you teach illegally while they check you out. YOU DIDN'T MENTION THAT!
Of course we should recognize China as a country that deports all illegal aliens, even asylum seekers from North Korea, caring not for the ensuing torture caused to those desperadoes thereby.
In my view, Beijing and Shanghai cannot attract sufficient numbers of properly qualified foreign teachers. As for the backwaters, they've no chance of doing so.
Are you some sort of mouthpiece for the immigration goons in Beijing, or one of their wumaos? Maybe you'll be able to get that rarety of a Chinese passport for your efforts on this board. There are plenty of reasons why foreigners avoid teaching in China. And tightening stupid visa rules will not attract more of them, quite the reverse!
In case you didn't know, the biggest cheats in China are big outfits like Enfly Placement. They have even opened offices in Western countries to recruit naive and gullible folks, including those on welfare. They are cheats because they pay poorly, worse than Yuncheng agents, but unlike Yuncheng, you don't get a TA! Yuncheng agents pay her!

I also worked for Shane school at Shanghai. It was a very well run school. Lee an Australian woman is an excellent foreign teacher manager. I would recommend anyone teach at Shane school in Shangai. I had taught here for 5 years and enjoyed it very much.

As a result, the pressure on Training Centers to locate new staff is intense. They will say anything to get a warm body in front of their clients. If you fly to China without a valid Z visa, you will be working illegally, no matter what these agents and training centers tell you.
If you send copies of your passport and personal information to these recruiters, you are also likely to become a victim of identity theft.
School reviews by individuals unable to write grammatically correct English are efforts by agents to market their franchises and recruit uninformed foreign teachers.

I have to agree. Training centers are great especially the larger brands such as EF and Disney English. They treat their teachers like valued employees and provide great academic support.
I would suggest working for one. All the owners are great people too.

The students is very lovely and the Chinese teachers and headmaster is very friendly. I working at Shane school to the Shanghai is 3 years. I think training centers provide a great opportunity for many people to come to China and teach while also learning about the culture. However, no matter how educated or uneducated you are. It might be very hard for you to find a job if you are older than 35.
I suggest anyone looking for a job in China start with a training center. They are truly great educational institutions that uphold the highest of standards for their teaching and how they treat their students.
Some training centers I would recommend are Shane School and EF.
I have heard Shane school is a particularly great place to work. Specifically the ones in Shanghai. They have the utmost integrity and teaching standards. You will be taken care of there.
